“… as soon as supper got underway, Bix snapped into the most amazing blaze of chatter… charming conversation… saying the perfect things to everybody… asking very good questions about Henri’s and Mo’s interests and Momma’s recovery and laughing at the right places and looking concerned at the right places… chat chat chat, charm charm charm, full of style and grace and blowing me away.” pg. 211
QUESTION: Whoa, what happened to Bix? Here he was, with family problems and unpredictable moods and then completely out of the blue he acts like nothing has ever happened. I think he acted like this mostly because he’s trying not to show his weird moods and act “normal,” if anything can be normal; after all, he doesn’t want to make a bad impression on Jerome’s family. Or, if he does, he doesn’t act like it. But it’s possible it’s just another one of his crazy mood swings, one that Jerome had never seen before. Maybe this was what Bix was like before his family problems became really complicated, his mother going crazy and his stepfather giving him a hard time and all that. He probably was putting on an act , but, like I said before, maybe this was the part of Bix that Jerome simply hadn’t seen yet.
